Lack of sleep is such a common theme among Autism parents. I know it is a huge issue for us and the Melatonin has made a world of difference.

The #youmightbeanautismparentif hashtag on twitter has to be the highlight of my last week, it has made me laugh, cry, nod my head in agreement and want to reach through my computer and hug people and say ‘yes! I hear you and we are not alone.’ Thank you Many Hats Mommy and Raising ASD Kids for this great hashtag.

3. Sensory Processing Disorder – What is it and What it is not
Anyone who knows me well, knows that I loath podcasts and talk radio, it is like nails on a blackboard to me, but this Blog Talk Radio show from The Coffee Klatch was well worth listening to – in fact Annie and I listened to it together and it was fantastic way to have a conversation with her about sensory issue and how they impact on her life and the lives of those around her. I especially liked that it talked about Sensory Processing Disorder and the related issues as separate and distinct from Autism / Aspergers.

4. Quick Tip (Novelty Bag): The Autism Files
“What do you do when the queue is too long and your child is getting agitated?

5. International Day of People with Disability
“While we have come a long way in the developed world with disability policy and support, so much more can be done. Increases to funding, improvements to accessibility and changing of attitudes are continuously needed.”
Today – the 3rd of December is International Day of People With A Disability and whilst it is not strictly Autism related Carly’s post really resonated with me, in particular because of this:
For me, International Day of People with Disability is not so much about making people with disabilities aware of the day, but educating and including the people without disabilities.
Which is what I try to do everyday for my girls.
